Le “Flecheur” (The Storyteller)

Le “Flecheur” (Storyteller)

Context:
The term “Flècheur” is an obscure French phrase which roughly translates to “he who builds arrows” and was used by the Metis to describe someone who told stories and tales at ceremonies, while men and women worked, in the evenings around campfires and in their homes.

The storytellers were essential to the community providing entertainment, and passing on vital information and history. As keepers of knowledge they were well respected and passed on valuable lessons about their own humanity and culture from a window of another time.

The Alberta Traditional Bowhunters Association would like to capture the essence of the Métis knowledge keeper and storyteller and use the term “Flècheur” for this newly established e-communication page on this website where information and member’s experiences will be posted.
